Ipwenz Constructions Limited came on board as on of the sponsors of the Southern Highlands Provincial 9s tournament with the presentation of a K50 000 cheque to the tournament organisers.
The tournament that will be staged at Momei Oval in the Heart of Mendi town on the 13th-16th of January, 2022 is shaping up to be one of biggest Rugby League tournaments in the county.
IPWENZ spokesman and one of their young engineers Mr Nathaniel Timothy along with IPZ Protect Manager Mr Sam Yalo presented a dummy cheque of K50 000 to the 9s committee at the IPZ base in Mendi.
The presentation was witnessed by members of the armed forces, the Mobile Squad 9 of Hela Province, the staff and management of the IPZ Construction and the 9s tournament officials.
Mr Yalo thanked the SHP 9s committee for the best initiative to host such tournament.
“This will bring locals all over the province to part take and showcase their hidden talents”.
Mr Yalo said in his short statement before presenting the dummy cheque that, “IPWENZ CONSTRUCTION is not new to sponsor and support, we have track record everywhere, IPZ has sponsored other sporting codes and social activities as well.”
Yalo also said “as long as IPWENZ CONSTRUCTION is here, we will still support and sponsor the tournament to take it to the next level.”
Mr Saku Ank form the host organising committee acknowledged and thanked the IPWENZ CONSTRUCTION, the Project Manager and the Managing Director Mr Palipe for the timely sponsorship.
“IPWENZ is one of the first cooperate partner to come onboard and sponsor the tournament with a huge amount of money,” Mr Ank said.
The tournament was first established in 2019 with the support of the Southern Highlands Provincial Government. Through this 9s pathway we have seventeen young man now taking part in the highest rugby league comtetation in the country which is the Digicel Cup.
“We have invited the 12 Digicel Cup coaches and they are all confirmed to be here on the 13th to 16th January, that will give opportunities to our locals to expose their raw talent,” Mr Ank said.
This time around, all districts in SHP has a team or two to participate plus eight other provinces will be here for the tournament.
Mr Ank, on behalf of the SHP 9s committee once again thanked the IPWENZ CONSTRUCTION and appreciate their effort and support to sponsor one of the biggest tournament in county.
