The opening of a new outpatient clinic, breast and cervical cancer clinic, modern operating theatre, and the launch of an Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) marks another major milestone for the Southern Highlands Provincial Health Authority (SHPHA).
The K3 million project, funded by the National Government and Petroleum Resources Kutubu (PRK), will improve healthcare services across the province.
SHPHA Board Chairman Augustine Mano said strong governance and financial discipline have helped position SHPHA among Papua New Guineaโs top-performing Provincial Health Authorities.
Chief Executive Officer Dr Joseph Birisi said the new facilities support plans to transform Mendi General Hospital into a specialist referral hospital by 2030, in line with the National Health Plan.
National Department of Health Chief Surgeon Dr Hoxxen Okti Poki praised SHPHAโs leadership and progress, describing it as one of the top five performing PHAs in the country.
The authority has also screened more than 7,000 women for breast and cervical cancer, with about 1,200 patients receiving treatment following early detection.
