30 teams to compete in Huta Cup Christmas Tournament in Chuave, Chimbu

HUTA CUP is a Christmas tournament sponsored by the National Gaming Control Board (NGCB), in Chuave District, Simbu Province. The Christmas competition started in 2019 but didn’t continue last year (2020) due to COVID restrictions. Fortunately, NGCB being the major sponsor came on board again this year, with minor sponsors like Trukai Industries Ltd, Digicel PNG Ltd and Pacific Industries Ltd.

The two weeks tournament will commence on 14th December 2021, with the first game kicking off on the 15th December 2021 and finals concluding on 29th December 2021.

The HUTA CUP Christmas Tournament is totally a neutral community Christmas event, without any undue political associations by any individual persons or groups.

Almost 30 plus teams coming from across Chuave, with a few teams coming from the borders of Eastern Highlands Province, and two teams from Port Moresby, will take part in the tournament.

The two teams from Port Moresby are Siane United and Limestone Maganis, who will travel up to Chuave this weekend to take part in the competition.

Limestone Maganis are made up of students from the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) who come from different parts of Chuave District.

Siane United [Pictured] was presented with full set uniform by their sponsor, Mr. Godwin Kambar, who hails from the Siane LLG of Chuave District before the team travelled to Chuave to play in the tournament.

Mr. Kambar has extended his community service initiative by paying registration fees and sponsoring uniforms of a total of seventeen (17) teams, including Siane United and Limestone Maganis in the competition.

Upon presentation of the uniforms to Siane United at Ela Beach, Mr. Kambar advised players and the team management that Sports is a “tool to cultivate good qualities and values of grooming young people into becoming better citizens of our communities and country at large.”

He encouraged players to apply strict self-discipline both on and off the field and become good role models. He used present NRL Centre of the year and Melbourne Storms Star Justin Olam as an example and encouraged the players to become focused and steadfast to pursue professional sporting career in the long term.
